Garden Wedding Venues

Having a wedding ceremony held in a natural setting is a popular choice in Scotland. Whether you are a nature-lover, a passionate gardener, or simply want a picturesque landscape as a backdrop for your photoshoot, we found some wonderful wedding locations nested in beautiful gardens for you.

1. The Japanese Garden at Cowden

Say 'I Do' overlooking the pond and enjoy refreshments in the newly built Garden Pavilion with panoramic views of the Garden.  The Japanese Garden at Cowden is an intimate wedding venue holding a maximum of 30 guests.

Location: Upper Hillfoot Road, Dollar, FK14 7P

Reviews: The Japanese Garden is a beautiful location for a wedding. The staff are absolutely amazing and extremely helpful and supportive. We booked the Japanese Garden on short notice because of Covid restrictions, and despite this the staff were able to accommodate us beautifully."

This 7-acre Japanese garden set in rural Clackmannanshire is the first and only one of its size and scale to be designed by a woman – the gifted Taki Handa. The Japanese Garden at Cowden remains an important link between Scottish and Japanese Culture.

The venue is licensed to hold marriage ceremonies or renewals of vows – all in an unforgettable setting. Their Garden Pavilion with panoramic views out over the garden can comfortably seat 28 guests for your ceremony from 4pm onward. On sunny days they can also accommodate you and your guests outdoors around the Azumaya overlooking the pond, where you can be swept away by the beauty of your special day.

2. Abercairny Estate

One of Perthshire's most romantic and exclusive wedding venues. Hidden in the Strathearn Valley, close to Crieff, with only a 30-minute drive from both Perth and Stirling, and around an hour to Edinburgh or Glasgow airports, it offers a central and picturesque meeting point.

Abercairny Estate offers charm, romance and provides the perfect setting for creating your special day or event. The venue facility includes various use rooms for hire, as well as courtyard and adjacent lawns or field for a marquee if required. The nearby terraced gardens are also available for photographs or a ceremony by arrangement.

The rooms can accommodate weddings of up to 120 people using Thistle Hall for your ceremony and the dining hall for the meal. Some choose to hold their ceremony in the Italian Garden. The Courtyard is perfect for outdoor receptions, and for bigger weddings or events there is a marquee hard standing with a beautiful view looking over Strathearn.

3. Winton Castle

Winton Castle and its grounds make a special summer wedding venue. This perfect romantic backdrop to your big day is only a half-hour drive from Edinburgh.

On a sunny day ceremonies can be held outside in the walled garden, or in the terraced gardens over-looking Sir David’s Loch. After the ceremony, your party can move to the croquet lawn next to the castle for the wedding reception. Couples can decide whether they want to hold their wedding outside right up to the day before.

Flowers and foliage have already been planted in the middle terrace for cut flowers in the castle for weddings and parties.

Winton Castle’s ballroom is available for Ceilidhs and discos.

“Winton Castle was the perfect venue; beautiful architecture and priceless artwork around every corner, yet there’s a cosy feeling in every room.”

The gardens are the foreground to the castle, adding magic to visitors’ experiences. This is already reflected in Winton’s reviews: ‘simply incredible grounds’, ‘immaculate gardens’, ‘beautiful grounds’ and ‘brilliant location for wonderful photos.”

4. Fingask Castle

The gardens at Fingask castle are one of Scotland’s wonders - a surrealist garden made with traditional ingredients: topiary, statues and stone geometry. There are a number of lawns to choose from for your wedding, but in the owner’s view the best one is Ossian’s lawn. A triangular lawn (another surreal touch) with a bank and hedge down one side, so when the bride approaches us she appears gradually – a dramatic sight. After the ceremony the bridal party can process back to the fountain courtyard by the castle for their drinks reception.

Unlike many other venues couples don’t have to make up their mind about their outside ceremony until the morning of the wedding day – let the weather decide.
